Neighborhood Ready!
What does it take to prepare for a disaster and/or an emergency is first to
- take care of yourself and your family. Then,
- develop a working relationship with your neighbors. You and they are the First Responders in a disaster. This comes about by a process or program that takes
- Planning + Preparing + Practice = Resilience.
There are several programs that are being used. Map Your Neighborhood (MYN), and a few that have incorporated additional steps that are critical. This was developed by a group in Tualatin, who broadened the MYN program and has been further developed with Tualatin by a group in Cedar Hills. They are calling it Neighborhood Ready!
This is accomplished by what is referred to as Neighborhood Captains or Hosts to develop the neighborhood plan, prepare, practice for resilience. Learning who your neighbors are, what their skills and abilities are, and the equipment which can be utilized in a disaster and/or an emergency saves people's lives and property.
Due to the Covid-19 and now the fire/smoke affecting us all, Cedar Hills Ready! is working on this via Zoom meetings to get this started. They are willing to work with other neighborhoods to help out. They will be having their first meeting soon and that will be recorded. Stay tuned . . . .

Neighborhood Emergency Storage Container
Neighbors collectively pitch-in and build an Emergency Storage Container to be used by all. This reduces personal cost and adds more supplies for everyone in their group to use in a disaster. This is a pdf file that includes the pics to the right >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The following is another effort that several communities have worked on together to assemble in water barrels for their neighbors who have grouped together and shared the cost.
Sanitation and Hygiene are critical to get through a disaster. Consider that 2-weeks is a minimum. ![]()

Cedar Hills Ready!![]() 2018-19
We are organizing. Join your neighbors with Our Communities Emergency Disaster program. Natural disasters have been increasing over the last few decades, and people are losing their homes, neighborhoods, and lives. Cedar Hills is vulnerable to earthquakes. We need to get prepared. FEMA says emergency services will be overwhelmed in a natural disaster; they won't be able to help you for weeks, if not months. Your best prospect for survival is being prepared--individually and with neighbors. If we do nothing to prepare, you could lose it all--family, friends, pets, and home. We can alter this predictable future as a community by preparing together with our neighbors. Come find out how to get prepared at Cedar Hills Ready!, a neighborhood event organized by neighbors and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers. This event will be a family friendly event, with activities for kids and adults alike. Link: Community Quake Up!: Cedar Hills Ready! |
