2 ways to improve your situational awareness and safety
MONDAY, january 20TH, 2020 - MEETING STARTS AT 7 PM
Happy New Year, dear neighbors!
What would you say if I told you that you can learn to be calm, cool and level-headed in the middle of an emergency or disaster situation? This month, you have the opportunity to do that: to learn about situational awareness and increase your safety at all times.
Cedar Hills Ready! Team is offering two ways for you to improve your safety:
Situational awareness is the ability to understand what is happening around you, while thinking ahead to prevent potential safety incidents. It's an essential skill for surviving disasters. Our speaker, Scott Mize, is an outdoor enthusiast, a CERT leader, and holds multiple certifications in first aid and wilderness survival. He owns NW Survival LLC and provides training on many safety topics. Join us, learn something new, and share your thoughts.
Details:
Create a hazard map to better understand the potential hazards in our neighborhood, such as vulnerabilities to earthquakes, landslides, and flooding. It's an easy, fun activity that takes about an hour and a walk in the neighborhood. We provide easy step-by-step instructions.
Take Action > Learn more and get involved
We are organizing a Quake Up! on Saturday, April 18th -- an educational event to help all of our neighbors get prepared together. Save the date, get involved, and share our event fliers!

GET PREPARED NOW - GO BAG DEMO -
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH, 2019 - Meeting starts at 7 PM
Hello!
What would you say if I told you that you could protect yourself and your family while helping your neighbors and having fun? This is your opportunity to do that. The mission of Cedar Hills Ready! is to create caring, connected and resilient neighborhoods. We are committed to making sure every neighbor is prepared and has the best chance of survival in the event of a disaster. We are back in business after a busy summer. Like me, some of you may have family members living in California, experiencing evacuations, power outages, and fire threats. If you have loved ones in California, you know the importance of having your go bag ready to go. Learn what to include in your go bag that could make the difference surviving the next disaster, and come help us plan the next Cedar Hills Ready! programs. We are organizing a Quake Up! in Spring 2020 -- an educational event to help all of our neighbors get prepared together. In our Monday, Nov 18th, meeting at 7 PM, Trish Reading, fellow Beaverton CERT member and go bag packing expert, will show us how and what to pack in a go bag. It may include items you'd never think of! If you have a go bag, dust it off and bring it with you. Share your ideas with your neighbors. We are in this together. |

Preparedness Event
To raise awareness and educate people about disaster preparedness, we are planning a free public event. It will be broad enough to include government agency presentations, vendor displays and booths, speeches and demonstrations on disaster prep and survival topics, and activities attractive to children. The tone will be upbeat and friendly, while the focus will be to inform participants about potential disasters and the availability of information, tools, techniques and practices for their survival. It will also focus on how to connect with their neighbors in getting prepared for a disaster event.

Our Volunteers
Anybody participating to make this a successful event will have the opportunity to connect, have fun, learn a lot, and to make a difference in their life and the lives of their friends, neighbors, and church members.
We have numerous opportunities where people can get involved. More than one person can fill each role; in fact, we encourage it. People will be supported in the roles they take on. Many hands make light work—and turn work into fun.

(Beginning in 2018-19)
We are organizing. Join your neighbors with Our Communities Emergency Disaster program.
Natural disasters have been increasing over the last few decades, and people are losing their homes, neighborhoods, and lives. Cedar Hills is vulnerable to earthquakes. We need to get prepared. FEMA says emergency services will be overwhelmed in a natural disaster; they won't be able to help you for weeks, if not months. Your best prospect for survival is being prepared--individually and with neighbors. If we do nothing to prepare, you could lose it all--family, friends, pets, and home.
We can alter this predictable future as a community by preparing together with our neighbors. Come find out how to get prepared at Cedar Hills Ready!, a neighborhood event organized by neighbors and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers. This event will be a family friendly event, with activities for kids and adults alike.

Volunteers Meeting
Cedar Hills Ready! held a volunteer recruiting event at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ (CHUCC) in November 2018. It was well advertised through social media and the Homes Association of Cedar Hills Newsletter. About 40 people attended the event, including church members, neighbors, members of Community Emergency Response Team, the founder of Quake Up!, and a Beaverton City Council woman. More than half of those who attended expressed interest in volunteering.
